1002km in June!

I made it, my June challenge is over with one day to go. It was a lovely ride today with a nice lunch with Sian at the Village Pub in Barnsley. I'm looking forward to a MTB ride tomorrow with the gents of Northleach to cap off the month.

On my way to 1000km for June

I'm up to 855km for the month now, the 1000 is within sight. I'll not lie, it's been a month of grinding round local routes with a few bigger rides, but it's basically been pretty dull. I'm ready for the big ride and will be pulling back on the training in July, balancing the road with a bit more off-road fun. Having said all of this, I'm really looking forward to the event, lets hope for some good weather.

After school.

Trying to keep the training up with a sneaky hour after school ;)

Nick's anniversary.

1 year since Nick hurt his back on the infamous "Broke Back Mountain" and an opportunity for some offroading. Great 18 mile ride.

Devon ride from Lustleigh to Bigbury on Sea

Forgot to post last weekend, so thought I'd catch up today. Anne and Ted joined Sian and me for our wedding anniversary at Burgh Island and in order to prepare for the weekend we thought a gentle ride to the coast was in order. We set of from Lustliegh on Dartmoor after a super lunch the Cleave pub, it was only 50km long, but we climbed 1.2km, who knew that Devon was the foothills of the Alps.

London and back

Phew, tough ride. Just returned form a lovely weekend with various friends in London, I cycled down on Friday night and back this morning, 85miles each way. 5.5 hours in the saddle each time, but no I'll effects, and made all the better for some company (Richard rode with me to Uxbridge and I met Paddy and his friend Darren in Chalfont St Giles). GLW made me a splendid lunch and I think I may have a nap this pm and i can be glad that I wasn't ploughing through the mud in the middle of the night like Jon. Good effort sir....

More Mayhem..

Now 0400 in the morning and the team have each achieved 3 laps apiece... Doing well and ahead of the RAF B team! Now the tactics really start!

Wiggle Mountain Mayhem 2013

First lap complete of this 24hr MTB relay competition. After 3 yrs of promising to do it reality is hitting home. Only 8 or so miles a lap and only about 1000 ft of climb, but mud, wind and rain have added to the challenge. The team of 5 is averaging about an hr a lap - so part way through lap 7 of a likely 20 to 24...

ACCC Blast!

Made the mistake of taking up an offer to ride with the Air Command Cycling Club tonight - a great ride of 50 km and 550m of climb including Stokenchurch Hill (clearly not on the M40)! 1:41 which was a minute slower than the leaders PB; I just need a lie down now....

From Bourton to Cheltenham via Wales...

With Matt and Ted chillaxing on Burgh Island (I'm sure that they are training too...) there was nothing for it to put some solo miles in. The plan was a trip to see the Severn Bridge, but reality was to cross the border in to Wales and then head back - the result was the first 100+mile ride, and 6hr 40 min in the saddle. I am going to feel that tomorrow!
It said stop do I did! Stonehouse.

And a well deserved lunch in Chepstow.

Broadway Tower... and Back

Despite less than impressive June weather, a quick blast to Broadway Tower and back tonight. I hope tomorrow is better!

A pint in the sunshine

It's another lovely evening and I'm afraid the call of the pub was just too strong, I could not cycle past. So, reluctantly, I've broken my evening training ride for a pint at the Village Pub in Barnsley, 20 km into the ride with another 15 to go. It's a beautifully kept Matthews and slipping down a treat.
Tomorrow Anne & Ted and Sian & I are off to South Devon for a weekend at Burgh Island to celebrate out 15th wedding anniversary. The girls will drop is south of Exeter so Ted and I can spend a few hours in the saddle. I've plotted a ride for Saturday and Sunday, let's hope we manage to get a pass....

A cracking June so far

I'm trying to make the most of the lovely weather so have just returned from my fourth ride of the month with a nice 45km spin, notching up 296km and its only the 5th! I'll match your 1000km in a month Ager, mark my words.

Monday 3 June 2013

Need longer days!

With only the issue 24 hrs in any day and work expanding to fill every spare moment, there was no option but to head out early today. On the road by 0615 and 30 km cracked by 0730. Glorious sunshine but so cold - hopefully mainland Europe will be warmer in August! Right, time for porridge...

In a flap!

If anyone has a really good Flapjack recipe can they share it with me please. They are great energy bars but mine are either too crunchy or too sticky!

Jon's Strava Update

Training Update!

The team seems to now be in full swing with their respective training regimes. Matt has overcome his 'nasty cold' which was bordering on Man Flu! And Ted has even had a couple of rides outdoors without the aid of the turbo trainer.

I managed 1016km  (outdoors) in May, representing a personal best month's cycling by some considerable margin. The aim is to improve on this slightly in June, and with two Stages of the 'Spin' taking place at the end of July, July and August will take care of themselves with goals and Stages. Nutrition is the name of the game, and it does seem that we can eat or drink almost anything at the moment without putting on weight - some bonuses then, although the supermarket bill is rising rapidly.

A health drink at Oldbury on Severn

Just completed a 73 mile ride to Bristol with a stop for lunch with Sian at Oldbury on Severn on the way. Nutrition is critical to avoid fatigue so I tucked into a burger and a pint with no guilt, lots of carb and protein....
